Aluminium Refinery Petition
To: the Prime Minister of Australia: The Premier of Queensland, The Federal Government Member for Dawson, The State Government Member for the Whitsundays and the Councillors of the Whitsunday Regional Council:
We, the residents of the Whitsunday Regional Shire and visitors to the region, ask of our elected representatives that they do not establish a heavy industry precinct in the vicinity of Keela / Kaili Valley, or anywhere else, which borders the World Heritage area of the Great Barrier Reef.
We believe that the proposed development of any heavy industry ie: Chalco in the area, will irreversibly destroy our wetlands and inevitably our Great Barrier Reef. We further believe that the pollutants from the proposed industrial precinct will impact adversely on the food producing agricultural and aquaculture areas and our burgeoning tourism industry, within the affected region.
