Port of Airlie Petition
We, the undersigned, hereby request that Whitsunday Shire Council and the Queensland Government act now to limit the number of storeys in the buildings that form the Port of Airlie onshore development currnetly under construction.
The plans for the building heights were not generally known by the public and are completely outside the spirit of local town planning regulations that have been hard won by the community.
This destruction of the town's foreshore has already wrought havoc on the local environment and to block off one entire end of the town with high rise buildings in this small village, with its low-rise foreshore, is completely unacceptable to the local community.
Queensland's Coordinator General himself has admitted that tall building heights on the site were "inconsistent with the planning scheme and would block views and breezes."
